A new public safety campaign in Massachusetts is turning personal tragedy into a powerful message about distracted driving. According to Boston 25 News, the “Drive Safe for Chase” campaign officially launched this week with the installation of two LED billboards along Route 25 approaching the Bourne Bridge. The signs feature a simple but emotional reminder to drivers: “Someone is waiting for you.” The campaign was introduced on what would have been Chase Soares’ 30th birthday and aims to encourage drivers to slow down, stay focused, and make safer decisions behind the wheel.
The campaign was created by Brooke DeBarros, founder of the Team Chase Foundation and Chase’s mother. Speaking with Boston 25 News, DeBarros shared that for years she struggled to publicly discuss how her son lost his life, but ultimately decided that sharing his story could help save others. A special ceremony at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School in Bourne, where Chase lost his life, marked the official start of the initiative and brought attention to the growing dangers of distracted driving.
Distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable roadway fatalities nationwide, making awareness campaigns like “Drive Safe for Chase” critically important. Beyond honoring Chase’s memory, the initiative serves as a daily reminder that every decision behind the wheel affects not only drivers themselves, but also the families and loved ones waiting for them to return home safely.
