A special ceremony was held at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School on Friday, May 15, to memorialize Chase R. Soares, who died in a car crash in 2020. A permanent roadside sign that will read “Please Drive Safely in Memory of Chase Soares“ will be unveiled at the location where the crash occurred near the school.
Soares was driving with his older brother, Scott, in the early morning hours on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Police reported that their black 2011 Mercedes-Benz sedan was traveling toward the Bourne Bridge on Sandwich Road when the car veered off the road, crashed into a granite sign in front of the school, and became fully engulfed in flames.
Both men were taken to area hospitals. Scott survived, but Chase succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash.
An email sent to the Enterprise from the Team Chase Foundation announced the ceremony, which will be held on what would have been Chase’s 30th birthday. In addition, the email stated that the same day, the foundation will officially launch its Drive Safe for Chase campaign.
The initiative is described as “a first-of-its-kind distracted driving awareness campaign designed to create pause and awareness before distracted driving decisions are made.”
“What began as unimaginable loss is now being transformed into a mission to help save lives and prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak,” the foundation’s email said.
The ceremony will take place at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School at 220 Sandwich Road in Bourne on May 15 from 9 to 10:30 AM, with the official memorial sign unveiling taking place during the event.
